Son Yu Joung (KR)

12.ance Intensive 2024 Artist/ Choreographer

Son Yu Joung, a dynamic choreographer and educator, was active in Korea until 2013, where she taught at various universities and presented numerous works in collaboration with artists globally, spanning Europe, the United States, and Japan. Since immigrating to Singapore in 2014, she started her own dance school and also began teaching at NAFA in 2016, blending her unique background in Korean traditional dance, which she has practiced alongside contemporary dance since the age of 10. Her unique trajectory reflects her commitment and pursuit of dance that extends beyond the Korean tradition, to encompass Asian contemporary dance, integrating elements of music, movement, and culture to create innovative choreography.

Li Yong Wei
(Yeong Wen Lee)

Contact Improvisation Intensive Artist

Yong Wei (Yeong) began his dance training in ballet, followed by contemporary dance, in Singapore, which led him to further his studies of movement in Arizona State University (ASU). Since graduating from ASU in 2010 with an Outstanding Graduate Student Creative Work Award and a Distinguished Teacher Award, he has continued his practice and sharing of dance/movement in diverse environments.

 Yeong has also facilitated dance/movement workshops at King’s Academy, Jordan (2009), Arizona Dance Education Organization, Phoenix, Arizona (2010), America College Dance Festival, Tempe, Arizona (2010), International Dance Festival in Ilan, Taiwan (2011), Contact Festival, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia (2012, 2013), Mission Improvable Festival, Buffalo, New York (2012), Beijing Dance Academy (2015), Toronto (2016), and Shouze Arts Center, Beijing (2018 - 2024). In Singapore, Yong Wei (Yeong) also conducts dance/ movement workshops at O’Joy Care Center (part of the Health Oriented Ageing programme), Memories Café (Project by Alzheimer’s Disease Association), Greentree Montessori (a Creative Movement Class) and Nanyang Academy Of Fine Arts (Teaching Improvisation and Contact Improvisation). He occasionally organizes and facilitates intensive workshops to deepen his research and study of dance/movement.

Daphne Chua
 

Somatic Improvisation Workshop : Integrity & Fluidity through the Bones Workshop Artist

A self-professed body-mind and movement nerd, Daphne is always exploring the underlying principles of the human brain-body connections in the way we relate. She applies principles form her studies in the School for Body Mind Centering®, kinesiology, embodied anatomy & physiology through somatics, evidence-based research on the nervous system, trauma physiology, as well as Body Mind Centering. She also has been dancing Contact Improvisation for more than a decade, and facilitates improv workshops using BMC® priniciples in embodiment and creative expressions. Daphne has helped people of all ages rehabilitate injuries, regain neuromotor functions, manage chronic pain, and work through trauma. She also creates holistic therapeutic trainings and mentorship programs for individuals, movement teachers, fitness instructors, healthcare and corporate professionals.

Vincent Yong
 

The Science of Movement Artistry - Exploring the Somatic Connections within to Perform with Greater Ease and Confidence Workshop Artist

Vincent Yong is an independent movement artist, educator, and therapist with over 20 years of experience in Europe, the US, and Singapore. He is the first and only Registered Somatic Movement Educator and Therapist (RSME, RSMT) in Singapore accredited by the International Somatic Movement Educator and Therapy Association (ISMETA). As the founder of Danspire International, Vincent pioneers somatic dance and movement, integrating the body, mind, emotions, and social influences into practices that enhance movement and action. His work spans across various industries, addressing effects of mental health and aging problems. After returning to Singapore as also a Cancer Exercise Specialist from the US, he focused on supporting the emotional well-being of seniors and survivors of cancer and stroke. Vincent has helped dignitaries and professionals to enhance daily performance during their different life stages. He has also mentored students from over 30 countries who have become movement teachers, therapists, and performing artists. Vincent is the only Singaporean dancer to graduate from the prestigious CODARTS in the Netherlands, with a career that includes performances in many cities and work with notable celebrities such as Andy Lau, Stephanie Sun, and Jeff Chang. He has choreographed for the National Day Parades and the ASEAN Para Games. Vincent authored the book Flow – The Art of Creating AbunDance and has contributed to various publications. He represented Singapore at Harvard University during a neuroscience conference and was a guest speaker at The Embodiment Conference. Most recently, he presented at the International Association of Dance Medicine and Science (IADMS) Conference in Italy and serves on the board of the Intersectionality Task Force, now Special Interest Groups (SIG) with IADMS. Hou Lulu
 

Dancing through Daily Movements Class Artist

Ms Lulu graduated from Liaoning Ballet School, China. She was invited to and moved to Singapore under a government scholarship. She graduated form Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts with a Diploma in Dance, and LaSalle College of the Arts with a Bachelor’s degree in Performing Arts. Since then she has been teaching ballet and contemporary dance for over 15 years in Singapore, with an extensive experience and track record in choreography and competition training where Best Choreographer award was one of the many she has received for her creations. Ms. Lulu was a professional dancer with Dance Ensemble Singapore and Frontier Danceland from 2006 to 2012.

Beryl Tay
 

Contemporary Lyrical Class Artist

Beryl is a professional contemporary dancer and an aspiring choreographer based in Singapore. She was a former company dancer of TRDOco, Singapore, and Transitions Dance Company, London, and performed in respective company works that toured both locally and internationally to Malaysia, Indonesia and, UK and Italy. Beryl graduated from Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance 20/21, Masters of Arts in Dance Performance and was awarded ‘Trinity Laban Dance Award’. She participated in summer intensives such as OBOC Countertechnique, One Body, One Career by Anouk Van Dijk and Orsolina 28, studying and practicing the repertoire of Crystal Pite under the guidance of Sandra Marín and Jirí Pokorny. Beryl is in constant practice of combining her knowledge and experience over the years to expand her craft and artistry as an artist.

Sammantha Yue

Fluid Foundations Class Artist

"My art is living in itself — the starting point of my practice often stems from curiosity and personal experiences. I am interested in the roles the body can play and evolve through different grounds of practices." Sammantha is an artist, performer as well as a certified yoga instructor. She attained a Diploma in Dance (2014) and graduated with a BA First Class Honors in Dance (2016) from LASALLE College of the Arts. From 2016 to 2023, Samm was a full time artist with Frontier Danceland where she worked and collaborated with local and international choreographers including artistic director Low Mei Yoke, Chiew Pei Shan, Zhuo Zihao (Singapore), Gabrielle Nankivell and Luke Smiles (Australia), Tung I-Fen (Taiwan), Victor Ma Choi-Wo (Hong Kong), Shahar Biniamini (Israel), Richard Chappell and Deborah Nightingale (United Kingdom), Annie Vigier and Franck Apertet, Edouard Hue and Thomas Lebrun (France), Sita Ostheimer (Germany), Sascia Pellegrini and Marioenrico D’ Angelo (Italy).

Marcus Foo

Slow Grooves: Finding Flow and Control Class Artist

Marcus Foo is a dance artist, choreographer and educator who holds a Master of Arts degree from London Contemporary Dance School and a Diploma in Dance from LASALLE College of the Arts. In addition to his formal education, Marcus has enhanced his expertise by completing a 200-hour Yoga Teacher Training at the Yoga Movement Academy in Singapore. This training reflects his commitment to integrating somatic practices with dance, emphasising the holistic benefits of movement for both body and spirit. His movement practice encompasses a diverse range of techniques, including floor-based, Jazz dance, Yoga and various interdisciplinary practices.

Christina Chan

Technique through Improvisation Class Artist

Born in Singapore, Christina studied at The Boston Conservatory was awarded the prestigious Arthur B. Whitney Medal for highest scholastic achievement after previously training at The New Zealand School of Dance.  Her work in dance has taken her around the world, to Asia, Europe, Australia, New Zealand, the UK, USA and Africa; working with artists including, Stephanie Lake, Sita Ostheimer, Byron Perry, Liu Yen Cheng, Matej Kejzar, Stephanie Batten Bland, Noa Zuk, Shahar Binyamini, Wallie Wolfgruber, Gabrielle Nankivell, Victor Fung, Lewis Major, Russell Maliphant, Aymeric Bichon and more. At home, Christina has been working with Singapore Ballet, previously Singapore Dance Theatre, since 2011, creating 7 repertory works for the company for company seasons and festivals Dans Fest and Singapore International Festival for the Arts. She was previously a full-time artist and the rehearsal director at Frontier Danceland where she created numerous repertory works. She has also created work for NAFA, Lasalle and Sigma Contemporary Dance, where she is currently resident choreographer. Featured as “upcoming dance artist of the year to watch” in 2012 by local newspaper Lianhe Zaobao and in Prestige magazine’s “nation’s brightest 40 under 40, 2013” and was also the Honouree in the 2015 JCI TOYP outstanding young persons award in the category of cultural achievement.

Tung Ka Wai

Tung Ka Wai graduated from National Taipei University of the Arts -Theater Arts Creation Institute (Master's Program in Playwriting), and the National University of Singapore's Department of Chinese Language and Literature. Ka Wai's artistic interest lies in theatre, text and body. Selected works include Dance a Dance From My Yellow Skin by Chou Shu-yi (Co-commissioned and co-produced by Esplanade – Theatres on the Bay and National Kaohsiung Center for the Arts Weiwuying), A Space for Everybody by Candoco Dance Company (da:ns focus, Esplanade), Glimpse by Access Path Productions and RJ Thomson (Light to Night Festival 2023), Love Talk Show by Love 97.2 (2022), Pán by T.H.E Dance Company (2021), Dance at Dusk: Parallel by T.H.E Second Company (2021).

Cheang Siang Ding (SD)

Siang Ding began his dance journey with contemporary dance at the D3 Contemporary Dance Club, where he developed his dance foundation as both a performer and choreographer. In 2018, he attended his first Contact Improvisation (CI) festival in Kuala Lumpur and immediately fell in love with the practice. He was drawn to the openness and spirit of generosity that CI community shared, and CI quickly became his primary movement focus. Each year, Siang Ding immerses himself in the global CI community by attending festivals in Malaysia and Thailand. (If circumstances allowed, he would enthusiastically travel to every festival worldwide!) Back in Singapore, Siang Ding is passionate about sharing his love for CI with the local community. He has been facilitating at monthly CI sharing with Sigma, leading Saturday Jams, and hosting workshops and labs. Through these efforts, he hopes to grow the CI community in Singapore—and warmly invites you to be part of it!

Faiz Syazani

Faiz Syazani Bin Anuar is a dynamic percussionist, drummer, and performing artiste based in Singapore. His musical journey began in 2015 when he joined Ngee Ann Polytechnic’s Brazilian Percussion Ensemble, "Baracuda Batucada," where he honed his skills as a self-taught musician. Faiz is deeply involved in Singapore's vibrant music scene and is affiliated with several prestigious groups, including Nadi Singapura, Djembe Singapore Club (Youth Team), Open Score Project, Wicked Aura (Batucada), and Music & Drama Company. His talent has graced numerous notable events and productions, including performances at Chingay 2023 & 2024 as a main act, and his involvement in Nadi Singapura’s "Berani: Demi Masa" 2023 production as a main cast member. Faiz's contributions to the arts community extend beyond performances, as he has also participated in events like River Ang Bao 2020. Faiz's musical style is diverse, ranging from ethnic and traditional rhythms to hip hop and jazz influences. His ability to blend different genres showcases his versatility and passion for pushing musical boundaries. With his rhythmic prowess and commitment to artistic expression, Faiz Syazani Bin Anuar continues to captivate audiences with his electrifying performances and dedication to the craft of percussion.

Chen Jiexiao

At present the artistic director of collective “MIAO DANCE 淼舞”, Jiexiao is also the director of production house Rice Bowl Pixels, as well as a swimming instructor. Jiexiao has performed with esteemed companies like T.H.E Second Company and Frontier Danceland and has participated in numerous dance festivals. Known for his passion for teaching and performing movement improvisation, Jiexiao engages with diverse communities, including youth, children, and seniors. He has collaborated with visual artist Jaxton Su for the “Colours in Motion” project, as well as for the “Vestige” series of installation-performances. He also presented his own full-length production “How To Be Alone” in 2017 commissioned by NUS Centre For the Arts (CFA), as well as a full-length duet “Corked”. In 2019, he travelled thrice on invitation to Guangzhou to conduct dance film workshops as well as perform his works-in-progress. In 2020, he collaborated with theater director Richard Chua, multimedia artist Urich Lau, musician Andy Yang, and costume artist Eve Tan to present “Vortice Voyeur”, an online live full-length production. He also worked with all 12 artists from Raw Moves’ RAWground:Reference in 2020, responsible for cinematography and editing. His dance films have been selected for more than 100 festivals internationally. Winning awards such as Grand Jury Award, Best Direction, Best Video Art, Best Concept and Best Sound Design. Jiexiao is primarily concerned with topics relating to the human condition, particularly notions of loneliness and capriciousness. Chan Sze Wei

Sze is a dance maker, film maker, sometime trouble maker, parent, writer and activist. When they first shared weight, they knew they had found home! Sze has found community in CI since 2011, facilitating and teaching CI since 2012 in Singapore and internationally. They co-organised the online Future of CI conference (Earthdance USA) in 2022, and co-organised the Contact Festival Kuala Lumpur with David Lim from 2012-2013. They were an active member of the former Radical Contact network and Consent in Contact in Context reading group. A fundamental part of Sze’s CI practice is in Body Politics, integrating a somatic understanding of the body with the wider context of how we move in society, how we perceive ourselves and are perceived, how we experience privilege, ability, identity, association and discrimination. Daniel is an internationally renowned and established contemporary dance artist, choreographer and dance teacher. After graduating from Barcelona’s professional national conservatory of dance Institut del Teatre in 2010, he worked with international dance companies for 10 years, including Polish Dance Theatre, Phoenix Theatre, Zurich Opera, Y-Space in Hong Kong and Frontier Danceland in Singapore. He has performed at the Opera Houses of Oslo, Warsaw, Zurich; Saddler’s Wells in London, Kway Tsing Theatre in Hong Kong and Esplanade in Singapore. In 2019, I set up my own company, Dan Lourenco Dance to focus on my own choreography while continuing to work as a freelance dancer for other companies. Most recently he has performed at the Adelaide Fringe Festival; Edinburgh Festival Fringe; Edinburgh International Festival; Danza en la Ciudad (Bogota, Columbia); International Festival Fur Zeitgen-ossischen (Schwarzwald, Germany); CODA (Oslo International Dance Festival), iDance Festival (Hong Kong); Solo Contemporary Dance Festival (Ankara, Turkey). He has been invited as a guest lecturer and choreographer to teach students at globally renowned contemporary dance schools including: Dance Arts Faculty (DAF) (Rome, Italy); the Northern School of Contemporary Dance (Leeds, UK); Rambert (London, UK); YDance (Scottish Youth Dance Company, Glasgow, Scotland); West College Scotland Dance (Glasgow, Scotland); Attakkalari (Bangalore, India); CDDC Dance Centre (Hong Kong); the Institut del Theatre (Bar- celona, Spain); CIA Gramo Danse (Panama), Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts, School of Dance (Singapore) and the Singapore American School (Singapore). Hong Guofeng
 

Body History Workshop Artist

Guofeng Hong is an independent artist and the Artistic Director of Sigma Contemporary Dance. He has contributed to the extensive body of work for Sigma Contemporary Dance since its inception, establishing Sigma's distinct identity in the Singapore dance scene. His novel approach to choreography has driven him to create innovative pieces that extend beyond conventional stages. Notably, his portfolio includes site-specific performances at Dock 65 within the Esplanade Park, as well as a well-received online production titled "Survei:ance," fully conceived and executed on Zoom, and subsequently streamed via Facebook Live. His choreographic creations have been featured in prominent local arts festivals, such as the M1 Contact Festival and the SMU Arts Festival, as well as international dance festivals, including the Sibu International Dance Festival, Dance Circus, and the Blossom Arts Festival. Sources like The Straits Times and Arts Equator, have described his works as "compelling" and "immersive." In 2019, he collaborated with long-time partner Chua Chiok Woon to produce a duet that premiered in Singapore, and was invited to perform in arts festivals in Hong Kong, Macau and Indonesia. Most recently, he spearheaded a collective called “Unsound Bodies," dedicated to exploring innovative collaborations across multidisciplinary elements.

Neo Hai Bin
 

Exploring Inner Space Through Objects Workshop Artist

Neo Hai Bin is a performance maker and writer. He began his theatre debut with Drama Box in 2009, and studied actor’s training practices with SCOT (Summer intensive 2014, Japan) and SITI Company (Summer Workshop 2019, NYC). Some of his physical theatre works are Being:息在 (M1 Fringe Festival 2022), Transit步 (Esplanade eXchAnge 2023), and OX (Kaleidoscope.V 2023). His literary practice includes scripts, prose and novels. He is part of the theatre reviewers team “thea.preter”. In 2017, he co-founded “Wei Collective” with lighting designer Liu Yong Huay.

Fagan is a parkour practitioner and movement enthusiast, with firm foundations in Art Du Deplacement (globally recognised as Parkour) since 2003, and is also an internationally recognised A.D.A.P.T Level 3 Art Du Deplacement and Parkour Master Coach. Blessed with golden opportunities to coach in several countries including Singapore, Malaysia, Taiwan, Korea, France and USA, he has dedicated his career to sharing his multidisciplinary experience in an effort to make movement learning more accessible to others. Heavily influenced by the philosophies and training approaches of Kali Majapahit Martial Arts, Recognise & Escape Danger, Yamakasi, Ido Portal, Fighting Monkey and MovNat, Fagan strives to continue inspiring others to discover their fullest potential through the exploration of movement. Chiew Peishan
 

Sensing through Six Limbs Class Artist

Chiew Peishan is a dance artist. She graduated with a Master of Arts in Contemporary Dance (Distinction) from London Contemporary Dance School, with the support of National Arts Council Arts Scholarship (Overseas). She attained a Diploma in Dance from LASALLE College of the Arts in 2007, following her graduation from Nanyang Technological University with a Bachelor of Accountancy in 2004. Her practice is informed by life, where she draws from lived experiences to craft autobiographical fiction. Engaging the body as the central medium, her works explore the connections and tensions between reality and imagination, and are situated in the in-between of subjective truth and inventive representation. Peishan was an artist (2007 to 2011) and assistant artistic director (2020 to 2023) with Frontier Danceland, and manager, associate artistic director and artist with RAW Moves (2013 to 2016). She has created for Frontier Danceland, Re: Dance Theatre, The Human Expression (T.H.E) Second Company, RAW Moves, Dance in Situ, and education institutions LASALLE College of the Arts, School of the Arts Singapore, National University of Singapore and Singapore Management University. Her live performance and filmic works have been presented in da:ns festival and Huayi - Chinese Festival of the Arts by Esplanade - Theatres on the Bay and M1 Contact Contemporary Dance Festival in Singapore, as well as in the United Kingdom, Hong Kong, Korea, Taiwan and Europe. As an educator, she has lectured at Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts, LASALLE College of the Arts and School of the Arts Singapore. She is part of a newly formed creative collective, Shifting Clouds Within, that explores the encounters of bodies in spaces.

Chua Chiok Woon

Finding the Dance within the Body Class Artist

Chiok is a founding member and a performing dance artist with Sigma Contemporary Dance. Independently, her co-creation "Honey Bee And The Dandelion," and participation in various dance projects have taken her to festivals locally, including 12.ance Festival, Esplanade’s Hua Yi Festival and Contact Contemporary Dance Festival, and across Asia in Indonesia, Macau, Hong Kong and Taiwan. Aside from performing and her creative work, Chiok Woon actively shares her practice and findings in ballet and contemporary dance with individuals aged 3 to over 50 at Sigma Collective Space and Z.en Ballet, which she co-runs.

Andy Benjamin Cai

Contemporary Jazz Class Artist

Andy Benjamin Cai is a professional choreographer, educator and dancer who graduated from LASALLE College of the Arts Dance programme in 2002. He represented Singapore in numerous global competitions, competing in Italy, France and Russia and receiving Overall Champion titles and bringing back other prestigious awards. He was finalist with the Soul Fusion group in the first local television dance competition, The DanceFloor (2006). He also received a Best Dancer Award in the same competition. In 2019, Andy was handpicked to join Music & Drama Company as Creative Director. One of his more recent works, was to direct for Esplanade Dance Festival FULLOUT 2023 and MDC 50th Anniversary Event. Andy has many accolades but one of his biggest achievements was being chosen as the Chief Choreographer for The Singapore National Day Parade 2017, 2022 and The Olympic Esports Week Opening Ceremony 2023. He is extremely excited to announce that he is again the Chief Choreographer for this year’s National Day Parade 2024.

Li Ruimin

Flowing Horizons: Uniting Chinese Dance and Contemporary Styles Class Artist

Li Ruimin graduated from the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts (HKAPA) with a Bachelor of Fine Arts (Honors) Degree in Dance, majoring in Chinese Dance. She then went on to further her study at the Beijing Dance Academy College of Continuing Education. She is a recipient of the Singapore National Arts Council Arts Scholarship (Overseas). Upon graduation, Ruimin subsequently performed with CIE. Ismael Ivo (DE/BR) Biblioteca Do Corpo in Vienna and Brazil. Ruimin was also part of the Asia Dance Company. Ruimin was a main dancer with the Singapore Chinese Dance Theatre where she performed as the female lead role in many dance dramas. Ruimin also took part in many ASEAN exchange projects where she represent Singapore with her cultural and contemporary background. Ruimin has choreographed many original works that have been presented locally and abroad. She teaches and choreographs as a part-time dance lecturer at the Singapore Raffles Music College (Dance Faculty) and is currently engaged in Dance Choreography, Performance and Education.

Liang Chun-Wen

Body QUARTET(身體重奏)

KLDSCP.VII Residency Artist

Liang Chun-Wen completed a 3-year Dance Program from Taipei Little Theatre School in 2016. A member from a little theatre company - Oz Theatre Company's Yuquan Squat for Actor. Currently working at Taipei Guling Street Avant-Garde Theatre as a newsletter editor. In recent years, Liang has attempted to cooperate with choreographers, theater directors, practitioners in performance art, and visual artists in Taiwan, accumulating movement experiences and dialectical body activation methods and aesthetics from various live performance experiences. Selected works include Cheng Chih-Chung's "The Beautiful", Chou Shu-yi's choreography "Dance a Dance From My Yellow Skin", Yao Li-Chun's "The Steps", Val Lee's "Severing, Fracturing, Uniting, Pulverizing, Policing" and "Charting the Contours of Time".

Lim Chin Huat

A visual artist who ventures into theatre and later dance, Chin Huat is known as a cross- disciplinary artist. A recipient of Young Artist Award 2000 and NAFA Distinguished Alumni Medal 2019. A familiar name in Singapore’s performing arts scene; the former company member of Toy Factory Theatre Ensemble (1990-1996), and co-founder and artistic director of ECNAD (1996 – 2013). Chin Huat has worked in capacities of a creative director, choreographer, movement director, staging director, production designer, performer, to educator and mentor. Known for his visually stunning movement-based staging, his works were presented locally and overseas. He is currently a faculty member of Intercultural Theatre Institute. Daniel Seah

Daniel Seah is a guitarist, noise artist, and proponent of DIY music whose work takes place in underground music communities across Southeast Asia and North America. Some of the bands he has performed and released music with since 2014 include YOY (USA), Death Lettuce (Canada) and Nomoe (Japan) Spider (Singapore), Nomoe (Japan), Cactus Cactus (Singapore), Chio Bu (Singapore), and Tiny Hoarse (Singapore). He has performed at celebrated local festivals such as Music Day Out 2024 and Baybeats 2022, and has brought his artistry to international platforms such as Public Assembly System (Canada) and Solo Harsh Fest (Indonesia).

Titisa Jeamsakul (Ice)

Body

Born in Bangkok, Thailand. Ice had her Contemporary dance training graduating with a Diploma in Dance Studies at the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts (NAFA) Singapore. She thereafter graduated from London Contemporary Dance School (LCDS) in the United Kingdom with a bachelor’s degree in contemporary dance performance. Subsequently, Ice was a full-time movement artist with The Arts Fission company in Singapore from 2018 to 2020. She is currently the Assistant Director at MIAO DANCE 淼舞 (Singapore), a yoga teacher, and a mother to a young toddler. She integrates movement improvisation and yoga into her movement research, creating a unique and evolving practice. Rudi Osman

Rudi Osman is an improv electric guitarist and composer from the Singapore heavy music scene, where he emerged in 2003 as a founding member of post-hardcore stalwarts A Vacant Affair, who toured the region and released their debut album Reasons To Leave, on Universal Music, in 2008. As a solo instrumental act, Rudi combines elements of ambient, glitch and post- rock with a deep interest in meditation to carve tones of dissonance, noise, stillness, rest and contemplation. His solo concert debut was titled blue. (2022), which documents his journey through a deafeningly quiet depression together with movement artist Sonia Kwek. His first foray into the sound art space was in 2021, with butoh practitioner XUE for Drifters (2021) a fiery, post-apocalyptic piece slathered in distortion.

Loke Shao Xun

Sound

Shao is the impulsive and neurotic half of local analogue techno duo We Hate Deejays, and organizer for Singapore’s dark alternative cybergoth collective BlackLight Tribe. A convergence of experiences with club music, rock, and hip-hop dance led him to a burgeoning fascination with bass frequencies and their power to compel movement and trigger emotion. Wielding an eclectic array of anxiety-inducing electronic sounds, he explores the ability of music to express and bring catharsis to dark, negative emotions that are taboo in polite everyday company.
